Best Practices & Oil Stores Rationalisation Services

Hydrocarbons include Fuel, Lubricants, Coolant and Additives (FLCA).  Management of Hydrocarbons is a core competence of maintenance and reliability and provides a competitive advantage.

The competitive advantage is realized from reduced fuel, coolant and lubricant usage, early detection of equipment failures, and the extension of component life.  Major Global & UK companies have developed a Hydrocarbon Management Standard to provide a methodology for the consistent management of hydrocarbons.

This vision for Hydrocarbon Management is to:

“Ensue our clients will be recognized as a leader in Hydrocarbon management within any industrial process industry.  Our clients will obtain a significant competitive advantage from executing leading practices in Hydrocarbon Management and Hydrocarbon Management will be a core competency of their business.”

The objectives of this Hydrocarbon Management System are to:

  • Extend component life without equipment degradation;
  • Optimize fuel, lubricant, coolant, filter usage and minimize waste;
  • Minimize life cycle costs of all fixed and mobile equipment;
  • Replace low skill tasks with precision tasks aimed at increased equipment reliability;
  • Build our clients capacity and internal competence in HC Management;
  • Optimize Scarce Expert Resources;
  • Establish collaboration cross all UK sites on Hydrocarbon Management
  • Establish a Centre of Excellence for knowledge management of hydrocarbon data and leading practices

These processes ensure that together we are able to work with our clients to implement a Best Practice standard for Hydrocarbon Management. The first stage of this type of plan is to have an Implementation Methodology:

Most of our UK clients have various Hydrocarbon Management practices and competencies.  Given that these clients are all starting from different competency levels within their organisations, the implementation methodology is recommended as:

  1. Establish Site Hydrocarbons Best Practices team working closely with Drive Management Services (DMS);
  2. Conduct lubrication basic training for all the Best Practices team;
  3. Conduct a Hydrocarbons Management Review;
  4. Produce a leading practice gaps analysis document;
  5. Develop an improvement plan for the site;
  6. Implementation of the improvement plan.

The ultimate goal of a competent hydrocarbons management process is to create value and reduce the cost of any manufacturing process.  This can best be achieved by completing the entire process.  The hydrocarbons management program is designed to identify the gaps from best practice and produce an implementation plan. This Hydrocarbon Management Standard forms the basis for a site executed improvement plan.
